QAC Mental Health Committee Awards $50,000 to Local Organizations

It’s in the headlines all the time: Crisis in Mental Health Care. No access to mental health care providers and the inability to afford this type of care are known to be the reasons why so many of our community members struggle to lead happy successful lives. The Queen Anne’s County Mental Health Committee (QACMHC), continuing its steady commitment to making a difference in this challenge, recently awarded $50,000 in grants among nine community organizations that demonstrated their intent to use QACMHC funds to further its mission. The grants were awarded to: The Pro Bono Counseling Project, Crossroads Community, For All Seasons, Compass, Haven Ministries, QAC Public Schools, Radcliffe Creek School, YMCA of the Chesapeake, and KIHS Students for Wellness Club.

“These grants are made possible by community support of our fundraisers and through generous donations from local businesses and individuals,” said QACMHC President Kelly Phipps. “We appreciate the outpouring of support whenever we have a fundraiser or ask for donations.”

QACMHC was established in 1986 by a group of local women who realized that local mental health programs needed access to additional funds to provide services to those who need them. In the past 37 years, QACMHC has awarded over $780,000 in grants to enhance mental health services for Queen Anne’s County residents. QACMHC strives to create a community where those with mental health needs have access to resources and are treated with dignity, respect, and equality. QACMCH has no paid staff and is run by over a dozen volunteer members.

QACMHC will hold its extremely popular Old Bags Luncheon in the Fall of 2025 and may be hosting a fundraiser in 2024. QACMHC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization; all donations are tax-deductible.
