QAC Recreation Department’s 2011 Youth Basketball League Champions

12-13 Year Old Boys
The 12-13 Queen Anne’s County Youth Rec League champion Kent Island Spurs featuring team leaders, Melvin Walker and Deyante Shrieve coached by Tommy Hart compiled an 8-1 regular season record losing only to the “Warriors.” The team they would ultimately rematch in the championship game. The Spurs entered the playoffs with the team motto “why not us”? They played 3 tough teams reaching the Championship game. The championship game was played at Queen Anne’s County High school on March 19th to a full house of spectators which featured a back and forth affair, whereby, the outcome was uncertain. The Spurs were able to eek out a 7 point win! A great season for a great bunch of kids! Congratulations to both teams on a great game and season.

12-13 Year Old Girls
On Saturday March 19th the 12-13 Year Old Girls team the Centreville Lynx were able to complete their perfect season in the tournament finals against the Kent Island Mystics, prevailing 16-12 in a hotly contested defensive battle. Over the course of the game the lead exchanged hands several times with neither team gaining an advantage of more than two points until the waning seconds of the game. The Lynx were able to overcome the Mystics’ full court press with less than two minutes left in the game when Ta’Kia Dozier was able to slip past the defense and convert an old fashioned three point play to secure the victory. Each team should be commended for their well fought battle and recognized for their good sportsmanship.

10-11 Year Old Boys
The 10-11 Year Old Boys Centreville Magic won the Queen Anne’s County Championship for their division March 19th in front of a big home team crowd at Queen Anne’s County High School. The Magic finished the season with an 11-0 record out of a field of 18 teams throughout Queen Anne’s County. The Magic coached by David Metrinko and Vito Tinelli have been coaching girls and boys basketball teams for Parks and Recreation together for six years now and both coach other youth sports as well. The Champions standing from left to right are Tyler Bonner, Mason Luongo, Tyler Bonkowski, Seth Keller, Luke Metrinko, Thomas Glowacki, A.J. Hershey, Harley Crites, and Mikey Monroe. Congratulations to the players and coaches for a great season.

10-11 Year Old Girls

The 10-11 Year Old Girls of the Silver Stars had a successful and enjoyable season. The team focused on improving individual and team skills, while at the same time emphasizing enjoyment of the game, working hard and good sportsmanship. The coaches’ are extremely proud of each of the girls for their effort and dedication.
