QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY — (December 21, 2018) — QACHS Senior Rachel Lee is the QACPS Visual & Performing Arts Teen of the Week.  Acting, according to Lee, has always been her passion.  It’s where she is able to create her own reality, and transform into someone else, allowing her to experience new things.

 “I want to create a world where people are not objectified, where not every relationship has to be romantic, where stories are told and audiences are entertained,” said Lee.  “I see things in a different light, and I want to share my vision with others. I plan on studying film and directing in college and going into the industry.”

Justin Callahan, head of QACHS’ theatre program, spoke highly of Lee’s passion for theatre, calling her a “born entertainer.”

“Rachel’s enthusiasm is unparalleled. She is able to enter a room and brighten it with her creativity and poise.  Her acting possesses impeccable timing,” said Callahan. “She can simply manipulate a character to achieve the most effective portrayal, all while keeping the audience enraptured.”

While playing the role of Mrs. Chauvenet, a quirky elderly woman in QACHS’ adaptation of “Harvey,” Lee was a “stood out” according to Michael Bell, QACPS’ Supervisor of Visual & Performing Arts.  “Rachel captivated the audience with her charm and humor…she owned her character, right down to her crooked walk and cane.”

In addition to “Harvey,” Lee has also starred in “The Crucible” and “Seussical” portraying the narrator Cat (as in “The Cat in the Hat”).  

Keeping busy outside of theater, Lee also plays soccer, lacrosse, indoor track and she’s been an avid swimmer throughout her high school career. Tack that on to a love for table tennis, writing and directing films, she’s also participated in Project W.I.S.E. at North Bay, has been a “Student of the Month” at QACHS twice, an Honor Roll student and Queen Anne’s County High’s Homecoming Queen 2018!
