On March 16th, an adorable black and white spotted dog was found on the side of the road by a concerned and caring citizen who took him to Animal Services in Queenstown. After a visit to the veterinarian it was determined that this pup was most likely hit by a car which caused several fractures to his pelvis and broke his right back femur or thigh bone. The femur will not heal properly with only casting. Implants, such as pins, screws, wires or plates are typically used. Once surgery is completed most fractures heal without complications. The fractures to the pelvis can heal on its own with conservative management.
Together QACAS and ARF are trying to raise funds to help, now known as Spanky, get the surgery he needs. “The mission of ARF is saving and improving the lives of companion animals”, says Beall, Executive Director. “We always have and will continue to go to extraordinary lengths to save a rescued animal and nurture back to health to make them available for adoption. Euthanasia is not an option for us. We are very thankful that Animal Services is working with us to save this little guy”. Given Spanky’s certain fate, the only option is to repair the broken femur. The cost of the surgery will be approximately $1,500.00 to $2,000.
We’re asking the public to support QACAS and ARF in its efforts to help Spanky. Please send donations to ARF, P.O. Box 396, Chester, Maryland 21619. In the memo please write “Spanky’s Fund”. ARF is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization; your contribution is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Any overage of donations received will be added to a medical fund used for cases such as this.
We may not know how the first half of Spanky’s life started, but we know this community will give this precious little guy the gift of four good legs to stand on for the second half. As always, we thank you for your support.
