Rehearsals have been ongoing for the Queen Anne’s Chorale as it prepares for its very popular Annual Holiday Concert on December 1, 2012. The Chorale will collaborate with the “Capital Ringers, a handbell Choir directed by Linda Simms, to present a sparkling mix of holiday selections themed around “bells”! This will be a fun filled musical and visual program with the audience singing familiar Christmas carols and actually playing bells along with the two groups.
There will be one performance only:
Date: Saturday, December 1, 2012, 7:00 p.m.
Location: The Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, MD
Artistic Director, Bob Huntington, has selected a mix of sacred and popular Christmas music for this concert: The Chorale will perform “Ding Dong Merrily on High”, a sixteenth century French carol arranged by Barbara B. Kenyon; “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”, the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to music adapted by John Marks; “Christmas Bells”, a Norwegian folk song, arranged by John Rutter. The Chorale, joined by the Capital Ringers, will perform “Angels We Have Heard on High”, arranged by Arnold B. Sherman; “Joy To The World” arranged by Cathy Moklebust; “Lo How A Rose E’er Blooming” arranged by Carlton R. Young;” Calypso Lullaby”,a West Indies Carol with text and setting by Joel Raney and Stanley Hoffman’s “Land of Crystal Dreams”. Several pieces by the Chorale’s “Select Ensemble” will include “Kling Gloekchen” and “I Hear Bells”. Mr. Huntington has also chosen a particularly clever piece, “So ‘Baroque’ At Christmas”, which is based on themes from Handel’s “Messiah” with lyrics and arrangements by Earlene Rentz. Interspersed throughout the program, the Capital Ringers will perform their repertoire written especially for a bell choir of their high caliber.
The Chorale is ably accompanied by Cynthia Bidinotto-Slate.
The Chorale, in keeping with its Mission Statement of providing quality music for the community, will also perform at the Benedictine School during the holidays.
Cost of tickets is $15.00 for adults and children through high school are admitted free. The concert venue is handicapped accessible.
A reception will follow the concert.
