February 2- The Art of Penjing: Dr. Akey Hung, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., All ages, Penjing is the recreation of the mystical beauty of nature in a container using natural materials such as plants, rocks, soil, and water. Tree penjing developed into bonsai in Japan. Dr. Hung will give an illustrated power point presentation on the unique characteristics of this Oriental art, different schools of penjing, the basic styles of tree penjing and bonsai, techniques used in growing them and the differences between penjing and a bonsai.
