Queen Anne’s County Department of Aging announced today the reinstatement of our cell phone fundraising program. Proceeds from the collection efforts will be applied to senior citizens throughout the county.
“Donating a used, unwanted cell phone allows community members to donate to an important cause without reaching into their wallets,” stated Joyce Groh, Benefits Counselor for the Dept. of Aging. “With the hundreds of thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community, the fundraising potential is almost limitless.”
The Department of Aging has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), a Miramar, Florida firm that specializes in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising programs through the collection and responsible recycling of used cellular phones. Shelter Alliance currently works with over 2000 social service organizations in 50 states and has contributed over $5,000,000 to participating organizations.
Cell phone collection “drop boxes” are currently established at the following locations in the community:
QAC Sheriff’s Office, 505 Railroad Avenue
Community Partnerships for Children & Families, 320 Pennsylvania Avenue
QAC Tourism Department , 425 Piney Narrows Road
All QAC Senior Centers : Stevensville, Grasonville,Centreville, and Sudlersville
The Dept. of Aging requests and appreciates that the public bring their used, unwanted cell phones and battery to these locations during working hours. There is a need for additional collection partners. The boxes are not provided only information about the program and posters. Please contact our office if your business is interested in becoming a collection partner. Additionally, we are seeking volunteers to do monthly pick ups at various locations within the county.
The Department of Aging is additionally soliciting local businesses to initiate collection campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors. We encourage businesses of all types to participate in this program. Please contact us at the number below.
