Queen Anne’s Free Library Raising Funds to Paint A Mural in Children’s Room at the Kent Island Branch

alex mural (400 x 290)The Queen Anne’s County Free Library is raising funds to paint a mural in the children’s room at the Kent Island Branch.

The mural will be painted by Stevensville resident Alex Sabo of A Girl and A Brush. The library selected a Jack and the Beanstalk theme, with a vine weaving whimsically around the children’s room and adorned with several nursery rhyme characters.

The library has planned several fundraisers to support the mural project. Raffle tickets for a Thirty-One bag filled with items from local merchants are available for $5 at both branches of the Queen Anne’s County Free Library. The basket is on display at the Kent Island Branch.

Both libraries are selling Queen Anne’s County Free Library canvas tote bags for $10. Supporters also have the option of buying a tote bag for a discounted $5 when they also buy a $5 raffle ticket.

Wednesday, March 6, is Spirit Night at the Kent Island Chick-Fil-A. Customers can mention library spirit night when placing an order between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m., and the library will receive a portion of the order total toward the mural fund.

The library is also accepting tax-deductible donations made payable to QACFL and designated for the Kent Island mural.

Contributors to the raffle basket, valued over $100, include: Bellies, Babies and Beyond, Country Pettaler, Fields of Heather Bakery, Wye River Designs, The Glassbug, Prodigy Computers, Kent Island Car Wash, and Thirty One.

The raffle drawing will be held on Wednesday, March 6. The winner need not be present during the drawing.

Sabo is a self-taught artist. Her murals can be seen all over Kent Island at Matapeake Elementary School, Bay Area Pediatrics, Safe Harbor Church, and Annapolis Speech and Language.
