Join students and their families Friday evening, May 18 at the Centre for the Arts as participants of the recent STArt! (Students, Teachers, Artists) program are honored. The STArt! program was held at the four county middle schools throughout the month of April. Committee Chair Sharon Lipsius said the program is part of the Arts Council’s outreach to support and promote young artists and is “important, appreciated and very successful.”
Four artists, four schools, forty students and their art instructors took part in the one-on-one mentoring program. Artists Ric Conn, Stephen Griffin, Jonathan Shaw and Rick Strittmater visited Centreville, Matapeake, Stevensville and Sudlersville middle schools respectively for a two hour art lesson in various medium. Students created ready to hang artwork that will be on display this month. The students will enjoy a one-week exhibit of their work and be honored at the reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on display from May 18 through May 26.
The public is invited to celebrate these young artists, their mentors and their families for an art reception. The Centre for the Arts is located at 206 South Commerce Street in Centreville. For information visit www.arts4u.info or call 410-758-2520.
The program is supported by Choptank Electric Trust, Love Point Deli, Queenstown Bank, Susan K. Black Foundation, The Digital Architects, The Peoples Band and Maryland State Arts Council.
