Renew QAC Dog Licenses and have Your Pet Micro-chipped

You do not have to wait until the New Year to update your dog’s license through Queen Anne’s County Animal Services. County residents can obtain a valid 2012 dog license by visiting the Queenstown office, mailing in the form and payment or registering online.

By law, every dog in Queen Anne’s County must be licensed and the licenses expire on December 31 of each year. Proof of a valid rabies vaccination is required, and is at the heart of dog licensing programs nationwide.

“Many people do not realize that their dogs, ages 4 months and older are required to be licensed with the county,” said Dave MacGlashan, director of animal services. He said fines for unlicensed dogs range from $100 to $500 depending whether the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccine.

To re-license a dog you will need to provide a copy of your current rabies vaccination certificate and spay/neuter certificate (if applicable) with your application. These can be uploaded for those registering online.

Licensing Fees for pets that are spayed or neutered are $5 and the cost is $15 for those not spayed or neutered.

Senior citizens, ages 65 and older, are given a discounted price of $3 for pets that are spayed or neutered and $11 for those not “altered.”

You can license your pet online using at www.queenannesanimalservices.com The site will allow you to scan in rabies vaccination and spay / neuter information and as well pay for the licensing with a credit or debit card through Paypal (note: you do not have to have a Paypal account to utilize this option). Also on that site you may print an application to mail with a check. In person registration is done at Queen Anne’s County Dept. of Animal Services located at 201 Clay Drive, Queenstown, MD 21658.

Queen Anne’s County Animal Services also offers micro-chipping for both dogs and cats for $30 which includes a lifetime registration. “We process all of the registration paperwork,” said MacGlashan. “We just ask that people call ahead for a micro-chipping appointment.”
