Rotary Club of Easton Career Fair

ElijahForrest SamPlaskon EricCastillo MaryWheeler (400 x 268)A group of nearly 50 sophomores from Easton High School recently had the chance to imagine their future careers thanks to a project between the Rotary Club of Easton and Talbot County Public Schools. The students, selected by their guidance counselors and teachers, were invited to take part in a Career Fair at the YMCA.

The Career Fair is the point of entry event for the Club’s Career Pathway Initiative. This initiative provides students with the chance to learn about a broad spectrum of careers through industry tours and job shadowing experiences enabling them to have hands on experiences in the employment fields that interest them.

Following a welcoming assembly, the students separated into smaller groups to rotate through the morning activities: a human resources seminar by Chesapeake College, a goal setting workshop by the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board, and the exhibit hall full of industry representatives who were Rotary volunteers and other professionals. To make the day more personal, the students were paired with other Rotary volunteers from the Easton and Tidewater Clubs who served as hosts.

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Easton Family YMCA offered use of their facilities for this event. The YMCA also provided lunch for the students and volunteers.

Founded and chartered in 1921, The Rotary Club of Easton is part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization. To learn more about the Rotary Club of Easton, Maryland, visit www.eastonrotary.org or Rotary International at www.rotary.org.
