Save the Date for 4th Annual Gardens by the Sea Tour

DSC05450 (320 x 240)Last year the daffodils were starting to bloom and thoughts were turning to gardening at this time in what was an unusually mild winter. Although winter has come a little late this year, it’s not too early to start thinking about gardens and upcoming garden tours. The Kent Island Federation of Arts (KIFA) in Stevensville, Maryland is planning its fourth annual “Gardens By The Sea” tour for the weekend of June 8th and 9th, 2013. Most gardens will either be directly on the Chesapeake Bay or on inlets of Cox and Thompson Creeks, Eastern Bay, Prospect Bay, and the Wye River.

You’ll enjoy a self-guided tour of these gardens with docents greeting you at each garden and pointing out special features that make these gardens unique. There will be plein air artists at work as well.

In addition to beautiful flowers, gorgeous landscapes, water views and unique gardening techniques, a very special feature of this year’s tour once again will be the Cascia Vineyards on Kent Island. With the KIFA Garden Tour ticket booklet, visitors will have an opportunity to tour the vineyard and for a nominal additional fee of $5 participate in an optional wine-tasting of some of the area’s best wines while relaxing under umbrellas on the winery deck overlooking the gardens and the waters of Cox and Thompson Creeks.

Coinciding with the Garden Tour, once again the KIFA gallery will be featuring it’s annual “The Artists’ Garden” exhibit throughout the month of June featuring works by local and regional artists inspired by gardens. And from June 4th through the 9th, the popular “Garden Boutique” will be in place where visitors may find handcrafted object d’art for the garden or gift ideas for loved ones. All in all, this tour and partner exhibits promise to be a highlight of the summer season. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event and are good for both days.

When you arrive at KIFA on Tour Day, you will be given your universal ticket/brochure with a map & directions to each of the gardens; public facilities will be indicated. There are also many wonderful restaurants in the area for your dining pleasure. Tickets may be obtained online at www.kifa.us or by calling KIFA at 410-643-7424. You may also order directly by sending a check to KIFA at 405 Main St., Stevensville, MD. KIFA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization partially funded by grants from United Way and CFC.
