Members of the Shore Bancshares family of companies, including Talbot Bank, Avon-Dixon Agency, and Wye Financial & Trust, are sponsoring this year’s June 30th Big Band Night at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD.
The event opens the museum’s 18-acre waterfront campus to the public at 7pm that evening, and features the big band sounds of the Rhythm Doctors, dancing under the stars and in a party tent, and a great waterfront location for watching the St. Michaels fireworks.
“Big Band Night has become a tradition for so many people,” says CBMM President Langley Shook, “Families and friends can bring chairs and picnic baskets and watch fireworks bursting over the Miles River. We have plenty of room, and thanks to this generous sponsorship, we’re able to provide an outdoor dance floor and tent right next to the Tolchester Beach Bandstand.”
The Rhythm Doctors carry a 70-year tradition of sharing big band music throughout the mid-Atlantic region. The band’s smooth and powerful sound comes from four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, a rhythm section and vocalists. The Rhythm Doctors are known for their Glenn Miller and Count Basie repertoire as well as for the one-of-a-kind swinging arrangements custom-written by arranger and former director Warren Keyser.
Admission for Big Band Night is $5 for museum members ($10 for non-members), with children under 12 free. Guests entering after 8:45 pm for the fireworks will be charged only $2 for admission. A variety of food, non-alcoholic beverages and desserts will be available, with guests also invited to bring a picnic and drinks to campus. The rain date for the concert is Sunday, July 1, and the rain date for St. Michaels fireworks is Saturday, July 7. For more information, visit cbmm.org/bigband or call 410-745-2916.
