Shore Family Medicine Opens New Office in Denton

Kim R. Herman, MD, is now accepting patients of all ages at Shore Family Medicine’s new office at 836 S. 5th Avenue in Denton. This facility is conveniently located next to the Food Lion in the Fifth Avenue Shopping Center on Rt. 404.

Dr. Herman is an experienced clinician with 28 years as a healthcare provider. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Herman was a nurse and a nurse practitioner in a variety of clinical, academic, military and corporate settings in the Washington, DC area and New York. She was also a captain in the United States Army Reserve.

A graduate of the University of Health Sciences Antigua School of Medicine, Dr. Herman completed a residency in family medicine at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She also earned a master of science in nursing from the Catholic University in Washington, DC, and a bachelor of science in nursing from Dominican College in Orangeburg, New York. She is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Herman and her team of dedicated professionals are committed to excellence and the delivery of comprehensive and compassionate care. As a primary care physician, Dr. Herman is a resource for all members of the family, including newborns, children, adolescents, adults and seniors. She also has additional training in dermatology for the treatment of skin conditions and has special interests in women’s health, the treatment of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, preventive medicine and health maintenance.

The new Shore Family Medicine facility in Denton is one of the first Shore Health System physician offices to be fully operational with electronic medical records. Dr. Herman is the Shore Health System medical staff champion for the transition from paper charts to electronic medical records. She says, “I have been working with electronic medical records for many years. I understand how using these computerized systems benefit doctors and the patients we care for.”

Dr. Herman explains, “When patients come to my office for an appointment, I have information at my fingertips about any care they have received at a Shore Health System facility.” For example, Dr. Herman and the other Shore Health System physicians already using electronic medical records can, with a few key strokes on a computer, pull up the results of tests, such as blood work, mammograms and x-rays.

Through the electronic medical record, doctors can also check a patient’s records from a visit to the emergency departments at The Memorial Hospital at Easton and Dorchester General Hospital and the Queen Anne’s Emergency Center. Treatment received during a stay at either Shore Health System hospital is also available in the physicians’ offices and anywhere they have access to the Internet.

Dr. Herman says, “When a patient’s records are all in one place, the visit to my office can go more smoothly. I have immediate access to essential information that I need to assist me in making a diagnosis and to recommend care.”

Having access to the most up to date information about each patient is essential for a family medicine physician. Dr. Herman combines the benefits of medical technology while cultivating relationships with her patients and their family members. She explains, “I help my patients coordinate the medical care that they need through all stages of life. Whether the patient is an infant or a senior, Shore Family Medicine is their medical home. I am here for them when they have questions about their health and my office is the place where they return for regular check ups and follow up care when they are recovering from an illness or injury.”

Dr. Herman has established relationships with her colleagues who practice in the various medical specialties her patients may need. When someone needs a referral for a specific health condition, such as heart disease or gallbladder surgery, Dr. Herman says, “I know who I am referring you to because I know each doctor personally. I serve with these highly qualified specialists on various Shore Health System committees so I know what they have to offer. And, because we are connected through Shore Health System’s electronic records system, we can easily share information and offer ideas about how to best care for our patients.”
