Shore Health Thanks Flamingo Fling Committee

The Memorial Hospital Foundation recently sponsored a reception to recognize and thank the committee of the Flamingo Fling 9 Hole Golf Classic. Sponsored by the 9 and 18 Hole Lady Golfers of Talbot Country Club, the event raised over $82,440 to benefit the Shore Regional Breast Center’s Community Outreach Program. Proceeds from the event benefited Shore Regional Breast Center’s community outreach and education program. This program provides support for breast cancer awareness and prevention in the community for those who otherwise may not know about or take advantage of proper preventive care. The Auxiliary of the Memorial Hospital at Easton contributed $25,000 as a Leader Board sponsor of the Talbot Country Club’s Flamingo Fling 9-Hole Golf Classic.

“We are so pleased to be able to contribute to a program that makes such a difference in the lives of women here on the Mid-Shore,” says event co-chair Julie Wojcik, also a member of the Auxiliary. “It is very gratifying to raise funds that will have an immediate impact, to make women aware of the latest advances in early prevention and detection of breast cancer.”

Speakers at the event included Ken Kozel, President and CEO for Shore Health, Brian Leutner, Director of Oncology Services for Shore Regional Cancer Center, Roberta Lilly, MD, Medical Director for Shore Regional Breast Center and Outreach Workers Mattie Fountain, Jane Escher and Consuelo Carpenter, as well as several patients who have benefited from the program. Members of the committee included Margaret Riehl, chairwoman, Julie Wojcik-co-chair, Joanne O’Reilly-co-chair, Mary VanDervort, Trish Reynolds, Debbie Hayes, Edna Lynott, Myrna Darragh, J.P. Lewis, Phyllis Widerkehr, Mary Doetzer, Pat Casgar, Melissa Panebianco, Rose Marie Bowles and Rosemary Trippe.
