Shore Regional Health Laboratories Receive Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently awarded accreditation to three University of Maryland Shore Regional Health laboratories. Based on results of a recent on-site inspection, as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs, UM Shore Medical Center at Easton’s Main Laboratory and Bay Street Laboratory, and UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown’s Laboratory all received CAP accreditation.

David B. Danner, MD, PhD, director of both UM Shore Medical Center at Easton laboratory locations and Reinhardt O. Sahmel, MD, PhD, director of the laboratory at UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown, were advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. The three Shore Regional Health laboratories are among the more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

During the CAP accreditation process, which is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
