Skipjack Rosie Parks Gets A Christmas Tree

CBMM_RosieParkswithTree_1879HooperStraitLighthouse (354 x 400)Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) shipwrights and apprentices took part in the annual tradition of hoisting a Christmas tree up a mast on the recently restored skipjack Rosie Parks. Now through the holidays, the skipjack’s tree can be seen lit up along the Miles River and alongside of the historic 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse at CBMM. The number “19” represents Rosie’s oyster dredging license number, which is a number Maryland issues to each of the skipjacks dredging for oysters. Rosie Parks has been known as number “19” since the late ’60s.
