Solar Lane and Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company Partner on Solar Project

Solar Lane of Easton, MD has broken ground on an 85-Kilowatt solar electric generating project on the grounds of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, a company served by Delmarva Power, in Federalsburg, MD. Solar Lane has contracted with Paradise Energy Solutions to design, build and maintain the Solar Generating Facility.

By entering into 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with Solar Lane, the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company will have their electricity supplied by the sun.   After the two-week installation, it is expected that the Solar Generating Facility will be on line generating electricity by the end of November, saving the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company significant energy costs in the next 25 years.

According to David Morean, Project Manager for the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, “We were trying to find different ways to save energy. Solar Lane and Paradise Energy have the expertise and experience to install a system that was affordable for us. The installation is going very smoothly and we expect to save over $250,000 over the next 25 years with our energy savings.  With this savings we can buy a needed new fire truck.”

Solar Lane was founded to build and invest in solar electric facilities for businesses on the Eastern Shore.  The company invests in commercial solar projects for businesses and nonprofits.  Their focus is on helping these companies cut their energy costs in half eliminating expensive start-up costs.

Scott Kane, President of Solar Lane, who has over 40 years of solar and energy experience, comments, “We started Solar Lane this year in Easton, MD to invest in the Eastern Shore – creating jobs and improving our local economy by lowering electric costs. The solar generating facilities we build provide businesses and nonprofits in Maryland with lower-cost electricity at a guaranteed low monthly payment – providing them significant costs savings.” Kane adds, “An additional benefit is that Delmarva Power is now allowed to interconnect with us and use the excess solar energy we produce on sunny days to supply solar-generated electricity to their customers.  This is a win-win-win for everyone involved.”

Solar Lane has also created a unique partnership with Paradise Energy Solutions, a solar engineering and operating company located in Salisbury, MD, to install these Solar Generating Facilities.  Kane comments, “We are thrilled to partner with Paradise Energy Solutions, as they have the years of experience and expertise to complete these projects quickly and reliably.  To date, they have installed, and now operate, over 90 solar installations on the Eastern Shore.”

For Caroline County, the project means stepping into the future with alternative energy.  Caroline County Commissioner Wilbur Levengood states, “New rules on the books have allowed public private partnerships like this one between Solar Lane and the Federalsburg Fire Company to happen. I believe this is the first project to be completely on the grid in Caroline County.”   He adds, “This project helps the Fire Company to free up their utility funds to help with their other needs. I really think this could be a model for other projects in our county.”
