St. Michaels celebrates Small Business Saturday, November 30

SMTB_StMichaelsHolidayShopping (400 x 266)As participants in Small Business Saturday®, the merchants of St. Michaels are encouraging residents and visitors to support small businesses by shopping with St. Michaels retailers and restaurants on Saturday, November 30, while continuing to shop local throughout the holiday shopping season.

Small Business Saturday® is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

With five fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this holiday season, many St Michaels retailers say they’ll be pulling out the stops to get customers into their stores this holiday season, kicking off with the national Small Business Saturday®, held on Saturday, November 30. On Saturday, December 7, Midnight Madness returns as a town-wide celebration and signature shopping event, with prizes for participants and more. Other holiday festivities and shopping take place as part of the annual Christmas in St. Michaels celebration, which is scheduled for December 13-15.

Small Business Saturday® is a reminder of how important the small-business sector is to our economy. The movement to shop local, especially during the holidays, is needed to help support the local economy while preserving hometown businesses. Locally spent retail dollars also help generate the revenues needed to support residential municipal services–like police and fire protection, transportation, recreation programs, libraries, and other community needs.

Small businesses also give back to their community as supporters of local charities and community events all year long, through charitable donations, volunteering, and support, especially during the holiday season. Through December, St Michaels’ historic shopping district will be decorated for the holidays, with retailers offering special sales, open houses and extended hours for this year’s shoppers.
