SUPPORT OF GIFTED & TALENTED EDUCATION IN TALBOT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS GROUP CONVENES ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
The new Support of Gifted & Talented Education in Talbot County Public Schools parents and citizens group met for its organizational meeting on Thursday, June 5 in the Frederick Douglass Room of the Talbot County Free Library. The well attended meeting attracted parents, teachers, educators and Talbot County Public Schools Board of Education (TCPS BOE) members.
According to the group’s co-organizer, Ann O’Connor, “We were pleased to see the broad range of citizens who attended the meeting who are interested in increasing and supporting Gifted & Talented instruction in the public schools. The meeting contained great discussion and was very productive.”
Group discussion ranged from introductions, queries for wanting to be part of organizing an advocacy group for gifted education in the county, the history of gifted education in TCPS, to developing working committees. Discussion also focused on the upcoming TCPS BOE meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 at 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria of Easton High School in which Superintendent Kelly Griffith will provide an overview of the current Gifted & Talented Program in the county’s public schools. Parents of Gifted & Talented children and citizens in support of public school Gifted & Talented instruction are encouraged to attend.
Beginning in July, the parents and citizens group will meet each month on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm at 10 N. Washington Street on the second floor in Easton (above Scossa Restaurant). The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23.
