Queen Anne’s County senior nursing students Miranda Aquino from Kent Island High School and Cate Mandes from Queen Anne’s High School have each completed a clinical internship at the Hospice of Queen Anne’s Hospice Center in Centreville. The students are Certified Nursing Assistants through the Maryland Board of Nursing and have also earned certifications as Geriatric Nursing Assistants.
Aquino and Mandes requested a clinical internship rotation with Hospice of Queen Anne’s because of experiences with a close family member or friend receiving hospice care. “They were very interested in learning more about end-of-life care and those aspects surrounding it, such as the physical, social, emotional and financial ramifications,” said Nancy Pippin, program coordinator of the Queen Anne’s County High School Academy of Health Professions.
“We are so grateful and very thankful to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s staff for allowing our students to participate in such a wonderful, hands-on learning opportunity,” Pippin added.
Aquino and Mandes will receive their senior nursing student pins from the Academy on May 16 and graduate from their respective high schools at the end of May.
