August 12 Book Signing At CBMM: Chesapeake Views

On Sunday, August 12 from 10am to 5pm, award-winning photographer John Werry will be at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s (CBMM) store from 10am to 5pm to meet the public and sign copies of his book, Chesapeake Views. The event coincides with Watermen’s Appreciation Day at the museum’s waterfront campus in St. Michaels, MD.

Werry draws upon his 40-year love affair with the Chesapeake Bay to inspire a book with more than 200 photographs. Included in this visual tour are images of wildlife, watermen making their living, working boats, classic boats on the bay, sunsets, and more.

Now living in Philadelphia, PA, Werry has spent 40 years on the Chesapeake Bay, including the most recent 10 years photographing its beauty.

The August 12 Watermen’s Appreciation Day is presented by the Talbot County Watermen’s Association (TCWA) in partnership with CBMM, and features a special appearance by the F/V Northwestern’s Edgar Hansen and Jake Anderson of the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” show, as well as a crab feast, live music, boat docking contest, family activities, and more. Proceeds benefit TCWA and CBMM.

Book Signing At July 28 Chesapeake Folk Festival

As part of the July 28 Chesapeake Folk Festival at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD, Vincent dePaul Gisriel, Jr., author of Hearts Away, Bombs Away, will be at the museum from 10am to 5pm to meet the public and sign copies of the book, which is available for purchase at the Museum Store.

Hearts Away, Bombs Away is a true World War II story that takes the reader into a beautiful love story between a World War II hero and the woman he left at home in Baltimore.

The author’s father was a World War II bombardier on a B17 aircraft. After his father’s death and upon hearing stories from his dad’s fellow crew members, the author became very interested in his father’s military record and thus began documenting a good number of his father’s missions over enemy territory.

Gisriel’s parents had corresponded extensively during the war, writing and saving more than 1,000 letters between them. The author discovered a beautiful love story between his parents that just poured off the pages of their letters. Vincent had set out to write a war story, which he did; but he also found a love story that just would not go away, thus Hearts Away, Bombs Away.

CBMM’s Chesapeake Folk Festival celebrates the Bay’s people, arts, work, and bounty with live music all day long, regional foods, hands-on activities with regional craftspeople, small-craft paddling around the harbor, and more.

The event is presented in partnership with Maryland Traditions and is generously sponsored by Maryland Public Television, What’s Up? Publishing, and Pepsi Bottling Ventures. CBMM members, active military families, and children five and under enjoy free admission to the event, with other tickets available at the gate at $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $6 for children between the ages of six and 17. For more information about the Chesapeake Folk Festival, visit www.chesapeakefolkfestival.org or call 410-745-2916.

God’s Grace is Sufficient From the Projects to the Pulpit

In this book, Author, Father, and Minister Derrick Miliner discuses his life.  Miliner presents how he grew up in the south and how he learned to use drugs and alcohol at an early age.  The projects were a place he started hanging out at the age of thirteen.  From the Projects to the Pulpit describes the life of decisions that led Derrick to:

* The projects

* Drugs and alcohol

* The Christ his mother introduced him to early

* The calling to ministry

* The pulpit

Each chapter describes his life in detail and how God moved him to depend on strength, hope, and love.  Derrick gives details of how he overcame the several addictions that a lot of young black males are faced with. Drugs, alcohol, and womanizing, are some of the most abused issues for young black males growing up in the south.
