Wood and Synergy Martial Arts located at 222 B Shopping Center Road in Stevensville will be featuring mini workshops throughout the event addressing anti-bullying, and women’s self defense. Bully Resistance– As a method for self-defense, Bully Resistance Martial Arts practitioners seek to avoid exchanging punches and kicks with an opponent. Instead, we use one of our many take-down techniques to bring the match to the ground. Once on the ground, we strategically advance to superior positions until we reach a position where we can choose to control and talk to the bully or force the bully to quit using one of many submission techniques.

Kids need to train their bodies and minds as well. With our program, they will gain Bully Awareness, Confidence, Self-Esteem, Fitness, Coordination, and Self-Defense skills. Women’s  Self Defense techniques will also be addressed in mini sessions during the event.

More Than 100 Area Children Enjoy Grammy-nominated Performers

More than 100 area children, parents and grandparents were literally dancing in aisles recently as the children’s band Milkshake took to the stage at Queen Anne’s County High School Auditorium for a benefit concert to support CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Queen Anne’s & Kent Counties. The performance was sponsored by Ride Entertainment Group, Stevensville.

Proceeds from the performance support the local CASA program, whose mission is to advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes and are under the protection of the court system because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. CASA provides trained volunteer advocates to make assessments and recommendations to the court, with the goal of securing a safe, permanent home for every child.

“CASA is fortunate to have a friend in Ride Entertainment,” says Kathy Sells, CASA board president. “Our important work cannot be accomplished without the funding and support of businesses and individuals in our community,” she adds.

Founded in 1996, Ride Entertainment was established originally as a sales-oriented company. Today, Ride Entertainment Group stands as a highly diversified entertainment industry leader comprised of companies in sales and branding, financing and leasing, installation, and service. Their work with such highly visible brands such as Thomas and Friends, Survivor, and Skycoaster®, the most successful attraction in the entertainment industry with more than 73 locations worldwide, have garnered the company worldwide notoriety.

Critically acclaimed band Milkshake describes itself as a band on a mission: to create great rock music for kids. Led by singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl, Milkshake has written original songs and videos for PBS KIDS’ “Share the Earth Day” programming. Released in August 2009, the band’s fourth studio album Great Day was nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children.
