QA Closes Another Senior Center; More Services May Be Next

The Queen Anne’s County Senior Citizens Center is now officially closed. Adult day medical care at the Percy Thomas Center in Stevensville is next on the chopping block. Seniors living near Centreville must now travel to Sudlersville or Grasonville to receive age-related county services.

Closing the Centreville senior center had been talked about since the county’s departmental reorganization early this year, and it became official June 15 when Maryland’s Board of Public Works agreed to a change-of-use designation for the Kramer Building. The building was constructed to house the senior center using state grant funding in 1990. The board approved the county’s request to cease senior center operations at the building with the stipulation that the county transport Centreville area seniors to one of the other three senior centers in the county. The county must also continue to use the building as the office of the Department of Aging and to offer adult evaluations and developmental disabilities services there.
