Academy Art Museum 2013 Craft Show to Feature 26 New Artists

The Academy Art Museum has announced that its 2013 Craft Show & Fine Arts Marketplace will be held October 18-20, 2013 in Easton, MD. The 16th Annual Craft Show will spotlight many finely-crafted items by more than 65 national artists, including 26 new artists from across the country. Featured items will include unusual, hand-made and unique decorative home accessories, furniture, jewelry, wearable art and gift items.

Among this year’s exhibitors is seasoned clay artist Joyce Inderbitz of Yardley, PA, who creates unique, handcrafted stoneware and raku pottery. Love of nature and organic shapes erupt in her sensitive sculptural forms, which are in many private collections. Her stoneware is known for its intricately cut decorative patterns.

Using such techniques as caning, engraving, weaving, and layering, jewelry artist, Wiwat Kamolpornwijit of Alexandria, VA, hand forms every piece of polymer clay jewelry that he creates. His jewelry colors are all original colors of the clay, there is no paint applied. He adds beads and wires to complement his nature-inspired designs and intricate botanical images.

Hiroshi Nakayma of Worthington, MA, is returning to the Museum’s Craft Show. He was awarded the Museum’s 2002 Arts Market Place Award for Best Work Overall for his high-fire stoneware, uniquely glazed and fired. His pottery, based on his Japanese heritage, speaks to the Japanese idea of beauty and a quiet appreciation of nature. His work, although decorative and contemplative, is also functional.

The 2013 Craft Show hours will be Saturday, October 19, 2013, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a Preview Party on Friday, October 18, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Show & Fine Arts Marketplace, which will be located both in the Academy Art Museum and the Waterfowl Building in Easton, is one of the major fundraisers for the Academy Art Museum. Proceeds go to support the Museum’s many community-based exhibitions, programs and educational opportunities for all ages. For further information, visitwww.academyartmuseum.org

48th Wye Parish Christmas Bazaar Features Handmade Items and Bargains

The Wye Parish Bazaar takes on an “Old-Fashioned Christmas” theme this year to honor the times when imagination, ingenuity, skill, and local materials were used to create Christmas decorations and gifts.  As it has for 48 years, Wye Parish’s Christmas Bazaar will be held the first Saturday in November —  Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Wye Church and grounds, 14114 Old Wye Mills Rd (Rt 662) in Wye Mills.

The joy of giving and decorating with items crafted locally by hand will be celebrated with ornaments, decorations and gifts created by the women of Wye Parish for this event. Many of the gift items are knitted, crocheted, or quilted.

The Vestry Cottage will become the Holiday Herb Shop on this special day.  It will be filled with containers of locally grown and dried herbs, boxwood topiaries made from Old Wye’s boxwood, and wreaths and decorations made from nearby nature, along with amaryllis and paper white bulbs for forcing in your home or for gift-giving.

In addition to wonderful homemade baked goods (to enjoy now or freeze for the holidays), the Bake Table in the Parish Hall will be stocked with thoughtful, tasty gift items: homemade jams, jellies, pickles, and vinegars.

For years, folks have come to the Bazaar to find gifts at very reasonable prices. The always-popular Boutique Room, Gently-used Jewelry Table, Tool Shed, Christmas Books Tent, and the Attic Treasures Tent will provide plenty of opportunities to do your shopping without breaking your budget.

With holiday menu planning in mind, Bazaar-goers can order HoneyBaked hams and turkeys delivered for pick-up at Old Wye shortly before Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s.

This year’s Silent Auction will feature a wide variety of items – large and small – ranging from an armoire to quilted items to collectibles from Waterford, Lennox, and Fitz and Floyd.

Folks arriving before the 9 a.m. opening will be able to stay warm outside with coffee and breakfast sandwiches and shop in the Attic Treasures Tent.  From 10:00 to 2:30, outside food offerings include sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, fried pickles, and oyster baskets.

Inside, the ladies of the Church will be offering Maryland crab soup, bean soup, chicken salad sandwiches – and to really put you in the mood for the holidays, a turkey dinner with all the trimmings!  During  lunch, the Wye Conservatory of Music’s  Choral Scholars will delight you with holiday music.

Tours will be given for those interested in seeing and learning about the historic and beautiful 1721 Old Wye Church.  The Christmas Bazaar is organized and presented by the Episcopal Church Women of Wye Parish in support of the Parish’s outreach programs.  Elizabeth Johnston is Chair of this year’s Bazaar. For more information, please call the Church Office at 410.827.8484.
