As the oldest congregation in Maryland, Christ Church Kent Island has seen many celebrations since it was first founded in 1631. This fall CCKI will add a Fall Festival to its list of community oriented events hosted by this 381 year old historic church.
“Bringing people together is a part of our mission at Christ Church. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of our state and to have a strong relationship with our friends at Camp Wright. Our location and our relationship with Camp Wright allow us the opportunity to create a special event with the purpose of providing families an old fashioned way to relax and enjoy the fabulous fall season with friends and family,” stated Charlie Mead, member of the Christ Church vestry.
On October 27th from 11AM -8PM, Christ Church Kent Island and Camp Wright join forces to transform the serene grounds of Camp Wright into a fun filled center of family oriented activities. The fun will include games, food, crafts, demonstrations from local dance, voice and karate studios, live music and more. The musical entertainment will be headlined by local band “Flatland Drive” (www.flatlanddrive.com) who will play from 3-6PM. Flatland Drive is known from their bluegrass sound with contemporary stylings. The days’ musical entertainment will culminate with an old fashioned sing along lead by the CCKI’s own Praise Band members, Carl Hager and Greg Nicholson. “Commander Hager’s voice has often been compared to James Taylor so people are in for a real treat when they hear the duet of Hager and Nicholson,” commented Karen Catron, a member of the CCKI Fall Festival planning committee. The Hager/Nicholson vocal/guitar duo will play from 6:30 -7:30PM.
Activities from 12-3PM will include numerous games for kids from basket and toilet paper tosses to treasure hunts, a moon bounce, a giant slide, tractor hay rides and the like. Of courses there will be activities in keeping with the season like pumpkin decorating contests and other fall craft stations. And, for those soccer and baseball enthusiasts, there will be a speed ball station run by the Bay Bridge Baseball Academy and a soccer drill competition with prizes run by the Chesapeake Futbol Club.
It would not be a Fall Festival without some great tasting foods. The menu will include items to keep the kids happy as well as traditional Oktoberfest fare. And a shore favorite, It’s the Pits will be there along with the local Rita’s Ice. The kitchen crew from CCKI will be cooking up some brats, potato salad, spaetzle and hot dogs. And after 3PM, for those of age, beer will be on sale too.
Of course no Fall Festival would be complete without a haunted house. Friday October 26th and Saturday October 27th from 5 -10PM, people movers will take those brave enough to take the ride through the haunted woods of Camp Wright to Camp Wright’s Clary Hall. Clary Hall will be transformed by the Kent Island Drama Club and other local youth into a super haunted house. Admission to the haunted house is $3 charge for children 10 and under; $5 for adults and children over age 10. The admission charge to the haunted house will help support the KIHS Drama Club and Camp Wright.
Admission to the Fall Festival is open to all and Free. Wrist band for the children’s activities will be on sale for $15 (or individual tickets maybe purchased). Each band gives one child unlimited access to all activities (except the haunted house) and one pumpkin per child. For more information about the event contact: email@example.com
