On Wednesday, February 12, the Queen Anne’s County Free Library welcomes FutureMakers, who will create LED Lanterns with children in grades 1-5.

Sessions begin at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. at the Kent Island Branch, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville. Each session is open to 15 children. Pre-registration is required for the event.  Reservations may be made at the library or by calling (410) 643-8161. All library programs are free of charge.

To make LED-powered lanterns , children will create intricate patterns while learning how to control a real sewing machine. They will build a circuit with an LED and on/off switch to light the lanterns.

No prior sewing or circuitry experience is necessary. Children who are not yet tall enough to sit in a chair with feet touching the floor may need adult assistance.

QACPS are closed for staff development on the afternoon of February 12.

Over the past year, FutureMakers have helped children at the Kent Island Library make Wigglebotics robotic drawing machines, create and test flying machines in a wind tube, design and launch compressed air rockets, and build and race rubber band racecars.
