Geocache National Travel and Tourism Week is coming up May 5th-13th! It is reported that tourism is responsible for 1 out of every 14 jobs in Maryland. For every 233 visits to Maryland, a new job is created! Show your support for National Travel and Tourism Week by exploring a new destination.
If you love exploring new destinations, even those right in your city, geocaching may be the perfect hobby for you! The 2nd Annual Geocache Dash takes place June 9th. If you’re new to geocaching, take our introductory class Friday, June 8th and get ready for the big event! If you’re a veteran cacher, you can take our Advanced GSAK class, or come to the dinner social at Mister Paul’s Legacy. Saturday, spend the day finding the 22 event caches throughout Wicomico County. Come back to Winterplace Park for the Celebration Event, and get a custom, trackable geocoin! Not into geocaching? Come on out for the party at 2pm with pickup cornhole and disc golf, a crab feast, a presentation by Salisbury Zoo, bounce houses and more!
If you are looking to add some adventure to your 2011 summer, join the Wicomico County Convention & Visitors Association along with Wicomico County Recreation, Park & Tourism on a Geocache Dash of a life time. The geocaching trail will have you discovering great outdoor adventures and historical sites while searching for 22 caches all throughout Wicomico County.
Wicomico’s Geocache Dash, sponsored by Comcast Spotlight, Delmarva Power and the Centre at Salisbury is a free, family-friendly event. Saturday, June 11 participants will meet at Pemberton Historical Park (5561 Plantation Lane, Salisbury) to register between the hours of 8am-10am. From there Cachers must find 18 of the 22 caches placed at various locations throughout Wicomico County.
Caches will be placed in locations such as parks & marinas, museums and historical sites. Two of the caches will only be accessible by boat, canoe and/or kayak. On June 11, Kayaks will be available free of charge during the Geocache Dash from designated boat launch areas. After June 11th, cachers will need to provide their own water transportation to access the caches.
Cachers will return to Pemberton Park, between 5pm and 8pm for an evening social. The first 200 cachers that have found 18 or more of the caches will will be awarded a custom 2011 Wicomico Geocache Dash trackable geocoin. Several cash prizes, as well as, door prizes will be awarded during the evening event. There will also be food vendors, cold beverages and games to entertain the entire family!
If you want to participate in the Geocache Dash but have never geocached, a free basic class is being offered the morning of the event from 8am-9am at the Park.
