Baby Sign Language

Can’t figure out what your baby wants? Teach them how to sign!

Each theme-based session introduces the benefits of signing with young children combining age-appropriate signs and activities with solid information for caregivers. The 25-minute storytime presented by nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter Kathy MacMillan, will be followed by a play session for babies/Q&A session for adults. Many themes will be presented:

In cooperation with Kent County Public Library, the Washington College Student Environmental Alliance will be hosting a penguin gourd painting program at Kent County Public Library.
Decorate your very own penguin gourd while learning about some of the ways humans interact with the environment.

Listen to gingerbread friend stories and create a gingerbread house of your very own!!! This is a family program for young and old. Basic house material will be provided but each participant is asked to bring either a bag of candy or a box of iced mini wheat cereal to share for decorating the houses. Polar Express P.J. Story Time – November 27

You and your family are invited to a special after hour pajama story time all about The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Climb aboard and drink some hot chocolate while listening to the classic story about the magic of Christmas! There will be a special visitor from the North Pole and a craft activity. Bring your cameras! This event is by train ticket only.

What to do with out of town guests the day after Thanksgiving? Families and extended families are invited to enjoy this Academy Award winning movie, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney on the library big screen. Please call to register. Free popcorn but bring a drink.

“Harry Potter’s World, Renaissance, Science, Magic and Medicine”

After hours event “Harry Potter’s World, Renaissance, Science, Magic and Medicine”
Thursday, October 20, 2011 | 6 – 7pm
Location:     Chestertown Branch, Kent County Library
Dr. Janet Sorrentino, Associate Professor Washington College and expert in Medieval history will make a presentation in conjunction with our special exhibit, “Harry Potter’s World, Renaissance, Science, Magic and Medicine”. Her talk will include such topics as transformational substances in alchemy and secrets of the chivalric order. Please call or stop by the library to register for this special after hours library event. For ages 10 and up.  Refreshments will be provided.

Special Story Time Program

October is National Fire Prevention Month.  On Tuesday, October 18th children will enjoy  stories, puppets and a craft related to fire safety.  The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Dept will bring a truck and a fire hat for each child  to the Chestertown Branch library after story time.  10:00 A.M.
