SUMMER CLASSES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Kent Island Senior Center and Chesapeake College Continuing Education and Workforce Training Program announce the 2014 summer classes which begin in July and run through October. There will be several classes offered at Kent Island Senior Center which emphasize Healthy Living for Older Adults, Basic Drawing Techniques for seniors. Fit and Fun class begins on July 14 and runs thru October.
Popular Healthy Living for Older Adult classes include Yoga Mondays & Wednesdays 8:45am and 10:00 am July 14 thru October; Tuesdays Zumba Gold 10:00am, July 15 thru October, Wednesdays Movin & Grovin 10:00 a.m. July 16 thru October; Wednesday Line Dance 1:00 pm, July 16 thru October. Thursdays, Zumba August 8 thru November. Fridays Beginners & Advance line dance, July 18 thru October. In addition we have a DVD Walk Fit class meets each Friday morning at 8:00am. Tuesdays & Thursday Pilate, and Thursdays Tai Chi.
New participants are welcomed and encouraged to try any of these great classes. Membership to the senior center is free and registrations for classes vary $15 – $35 depending upon the class. STEVENSVILLE – Kent Island Senior Center has planned a day trip Friday April 18, to New York City to see the show Hearts and Lights featuring the famous NYC Rockettes as you’ve never seen them before.
The package includes motor coach transportation, show admission, dinner at Old Country Buffet, free time for shopping or browsing, and taxes and meal gratuities. There will be an envelope passed for bus drivers’ tip. Departure locations are Kent Island Senior Center 7:00AM and Sudlersville Senior Center 7:30AM.

Kent Island Senior Center announces its 3rd Annual Fall Craft Sale and Flea Market 8am – 12:30pm, Saturday October 5, 2013. Tables are available to rent $10 each. Vendors of all variety are welcomed. There will also be an appraiser of antique jewelry and precious metals available to appraise or purchase your treasures. The public of all ages are welcome to attend. Wine, Dine, & Cruise with Kent Island Senior Center on September 18, 2013. First enjoy a Tasters Cruise aboard the 50ft. Sawyer vessel located at Hoopers Island as you see how Chesapeake Bay watermen make their living. The Queen Anne’s County Maryland Access Point (MAP) office and its partner, Holly Community, Inc. (HCI) offer a free training series to bring awareness of the many resources available to seniors, adult individuals living with disabilities, and caregivers. The training series will feature six different educational topics offered at the Queen Anne’s County Senior Centers. The first of which is:
April 9, 2013 – Kent Island Senior Center
• 10:30-11:30 “Kitchen Aids: Assistive Devices to Bring Joy Back to Cooking”
• 12:00-1:00 “Long-Term Support Services and End of Life Planning”
Seminar attendees are invited to attend a one hour session or stay for both trainings that day. Lunch will be offered in between the morning and afternoon training session for a small donation. Lunch tickets must be reserved by 3/29.

Spring Zumba classes are now forming at Grasonville and Kent Island Senior Centers. Beginners are encouraged to try this exciting one hour exercise class. Participants will learn easy to follow moves to upbeat Latin rhythms combined with resistance training to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat.
Classes will meet each Thursday 9:30am at Grasonville Senior Center and 11:00am at Kent Island Senior Center March 21 – June 27. This Healthy Living for Older Adults course is provided by Chesapeake College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Training. Registration cost just $15 for the 15 week session. Queen Anne’s County Area Agency on Agency unleashes a new Fitness Exercise program held at both Kent Island and Grasonville Senior Centers.
Meeting twice a week, classes will take place each Monday and Wednesday, March 4 – May 22, 8:30 – 9:30am at Kent Island and 10:00 – 11:00am at Grasonville.
This upbeat and fun program is suitable for senior citizens of all ages. Registration cost $30 for the 12 week session which averages to be $1.25 per class. Advance registration is encouraged as space is limited.
