A Literary Evening with Mark Twain
Saturday, October 11, 6:00 p.m. Caroline Golf (a.k.a. Country Club), Pealiquor Road, Denton Presented by the Caroline County Council of Arts.
Celebrate the life and times of the American writer and humorist Mark Twain on Saturday October 11, 2014 at the Caroline Golf, (previously known as the Country Club). The event kicks off at 6pm. Guests will be treated to a fun-filled evening of good food, entertainment, words, and wit. While not required, guests are encouraged to get into the spirit of the event (and Halloween) by dressing in period or themed attire.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by local members of the community, featuring Rob Honer, Jim McPherson, Keith Shaffer, Greg Minahan, Chrissie Barr, Toni Bryant, Katyra Byris, Sunyata Courie, and Sarah Gorman. Guest speaker, Dwayne Eutsey, will present “No Humor in Heaven”: Mark Twain’s Life, Writings, and Religious Views. For nearly two decades, Dwayne Eutsey has been researching and writing on the unconventional religious views of Mark Twain. As an independent scholar in Twain studies, he’s received two Quarry Farm Research Fellowships from Elmira College’s Center for Mark Twain Studies and is published in a number of peer-reviewed academic journals. He has also presented several times at the college’s International Conference on the State of Mark Twain Studies and was an invited speaker at a special symposium there on Twain’s travel writings
