Queen Anne’s Chorale presents its annual spring Gala on Saturday, April 26, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Performing Arts Center

Queen-Anne's-Chorale-LogoBack by popular demand, the 60+ voices of the Queen Anne’s Chorale will present its annual spring Gala on Saturday, April 26, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Performing Arts Center, Chesapeake College at Wye Mills, MDThe concert, entitled, “Pirates Plus”! will delight the audience in a musical voyage to explore a treasure trove of sea shanties and pirate songs.  The repertoire is further enhanced by a running narrative that expounds upon the nautical theme and terms, and famous pirates,  including those that once sailed the waters of the Chesapeake Bay off of Maryland’s Eastern Shore!

A Pre-concert Power Point slide show with  terminology from musical selections and images of famous pirates plus tidbits of colorful local pirate history will be presented for additional appreciation of the concert theme.  This performance promises to delight the audience, no matter the age.  And members should watch out for a real pirate lurking about the hall!

Artistic Director, Bob Huntington, began these themed concerts in 2005 and their popularity has grown each season.  He carefully researches the theme of each and  selects matching repertoire.  His use of narration, interesting stage decor’, props, and audience interaction always “educates, entertains, and engages” those who attend!  Cynthia Bidinotto-Slate accompanies the Chorale and she and Mr. Huntington are an excellent partnership in presenting the successful concerts each season.

Among musical selections performed will be sea chanteys, “What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor?”, “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life For Me”, “Fire Down Below” and other selections such as “Lift The Sails in the Morning”,  “Pirates Song”,  and a rollicking medley from Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, “H.M.S. Pinafore”.   Other repertoire will be “Golden Vanity”, Blow the Man Down”, and” A ‘Roving”.

Rounding out this eclectic performance, are additional songs performed by special groups from within the Chorale:  soloists,  separate men and women’s choruses, and the auditioned Select Ensemble.  Also performing onstage will be flutist Heather Fullerton performing, “Sailor’s Hornpipe”, among others.  She will accompany soloists Kathy Hayes and Sandy Fox, along with the full Chorale as they perform “Song for the Mira”, written by Allister MacGillivray.

After the performance, a reception will be held so that audience and Chorale members may greet each other.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults and can be purchased at the door or from a Chorale member.
