“Dr. Forney is a nice, kind-hearted Veterinarian who loves animals and enjoys helping them”… – Roxy Cross, Queen Anne’s Animal Service

Dr. Michael Forney, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, has been volunteering with Joan Oliver by his side for over 10 years at Queen Anne’s County Animal Services. He began his volunteer efforts by spaying and neutering the animals up for adoption at the Shelter at no cost. However, two years ago he decided that because of the economic decline, many animals were not getting the preventive services or medical attention they needed. He believed this created a need for lower cost animal services in the area, so he began his bi-monthly Queen Anne Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Forney offers wellness care including vaccinations, spay and neuter services, and same day surgeries. He has appointments available every other Thursday and Friday from 8 am- 4 pm. They have been seeing clients from as far away on the Eastern Shore as Delaware to Annapolis on the Western Shore. Joan Oliver says the need for low cost pet care is great as they have noticed by the distance people are willing to travel for their services.

“Dr. Forney is a great asset to the community and without him we couldn’t do what we do. He is in it with his heart and not for the money and it shows,” says Tammy Darrow, founder of Celebrating Pugs, a non-profit rescue on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with chapters nationally in California, Texas and Georgia. Celebrating Pugs rescues Pugs, as well as other breeds of dogs and animals in need of rescue; many of whom need medical treatment and the services offered by Dr. Forney.

This summer, Dr. Forney will be hosting his reduced fee Queen Anne Veterinary Clinics at Queen Anne’s Animal Services located at 201 Clay Drive in Queenstown on Thursday and Fridays from 8 am to 4 pm on July 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th and August 8th, 9th, 22nd and 23rd. Call Joan Oliver at 410-490-6092 for an appointment time. Dog spay services range from $85- $120 and neuter services from $75- $110, determined by weight. Cat spay services cost $55 or neuter services cost $45 Call for a complete list of services and pricing.

Queen Anne’s County Department of Animal Services Helps “Get out the Give” As Part of #GivingTuesday

Queen Anne’s County Animal Services is part of the inaugural #GivingTuesday, a nationwide movement that harnesses the power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday has already inspired over 1,400 organizations and people in all 50 U.S. states and around the world to take collaborative action. Each aims to improve their local communities and give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. Scheduled for November 27, 2012 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – and the Day after the famed “Black Friday and “Cyber Monday” shopping days, #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create an opening day for giving.

Seeing an opportunity to channel the generous spirit of the holiday season and to inspire action around charitable giving, Queen Anne’s County Department of Animal Services has decided to be a collection point for pet supplies to help those struggling families this holiday season. Donations of food, treats, clean toys and bedding will be accepted at the shelter.

For more details about the #GivingTuesday movement, visit the #GivingTuesday website (www.givingtuesday.org), Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GivingTuesday) or follow #GivingTuesday (https://twitter.com/GivingTues) and the #GivingTuesday hashtag on Twitter.

The Queen Anne’s County Department of Animal Services was established to provide safety for the public, to ensure the humane care and treatment of all animals and to encourage responsible pet ownership. Staff finds new homes for stray and unwanted animals, reuniting lost animals with their owners and care for sick and injured animals.

Queen Anne’s County Animal Services Fall Event 2012

On Saturday, October 13, 2012, the Queen Anne’s County Animal Services volunteers held their first Fall Photo event at the county shelter, located on Clay Drive in Queenstown. It was a beautiful day and many came out to enjoy the event and the shelter pets! Dogs available for adoption were walked around the event in hopes of catching the eye of prospective adopters. Fall Photographs were taken of dogs from the community throughout the day. The backdrop was decorated with barn doors, hay bales, corn stalks, pumpkins, gourds and mums to give the perfect Fall look! Photos by Shamrock, out of Barclay, donated their time and expertise to make these pictures fantastic! Reverend Charlie Osberger from St. Luke’s Chapel, Wye Parish, gave a Blessing Of The Pets for all in attendance. In addition to these main attractions, there were several Bake Sale tables with items for people and pets. Raffle items were available for winning. Also, a Bone Yard Dig was a fun activity for the pups and their owners, where dog biscuits were scattered for finding amongst fake tombstones. A Costume Contest for dogs finished up the day. Kathy and Don Trotter took the outside candid photos. Thanks to all who participated in this fun event!
