Family Businesses Join for Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Swan Cove Day Spa and Salon of Stevensville and Coconut Joe’s Hawaiian Bar & Grill in Edgewater joined together for Save the Coconuts, the 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness event benefiting Hospice of Queen Anne’s and Anne Arundel Medical Center on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Brenda LeCompte, owner of Swan Cove Day Spa and Salon has been fundraising for breast cancer and raising awareness with women and families on the Eastern Shore for the past nine years.

“I lost my grandmother to breast cancer. More recently, my mother, several of my clients and now a staff member are dealing with the challenges of breast cancer. I felt I wanted to commit to trying to make a difference by helping raise funds to find a cure,” said LeCompte.

LeCompte, along with her daughter and son-in law, Jennifer and Michael Brown, and Kristen and Craig Foster, owners of Coconut Joe’s, selected Hospice of Queen Anne’s as a beneficiary of the event because they know of individuals who have been helped by HQA’s care, support and services.

“Hospice of Queen Anne’s is an unbelievably wonderful organization. I want them to be able to continue to provide these valuable services to our community,” said LeCompte.

AAMC’s Breast Center is also a beneficiary of the event because their specialized care and comprehensive programs reach out to the local and regional communities.
