Bosom Buddies Charities (BBC) has raised $1.2 million in six years to promote breast cancer awareness, treatment, and support in Queen Anne’s County. The organization’s success in large part is due to the commitment of local businesses like Taco Bell and owners Bob and Aileen Carlucci.
“I had my own battle with breast cancer,” said Aileen Carlucci, “but fortunately we found it early and I’ve had a full recovery. We have supported Bosom Buddies in some fashion beginning with their first Ball in 2008, but this year my husband and I felt strongly that we should be fully committed. Knowing that all the money they raise stays in our own community has been a big factor in our support of this outstanding organization.”
Bosom Buddies has been a force for good in the community since its inception in 2006. They have donated the digital mammography equipment to the Kent Island Breast Center, funded a highly successful Survivor Retreat, and support a nurse navigator who provides education, guidance, and emotional support for breast cancer patients. This year’s Ball—ATouch of the Islands will be held January 19, 2013. The proceeds from the Ball will enable Bosom Buddies to continue their pledge to purchase the Spy Elite equipment for Anne Arundel Medical Center, which enables surgeons to access real-time information and modify plans before the patient leaves the operating room. They will also begin funding a Faxitron System, which reduces procedure time in the operating room for breast biopsy and lumpectomy, for the Shore Health Regional Breast Center.
Bosom Buddies Ball Co-chairs, Susan Ponchock and Biana Arentz reflected on all that has been accomplished over the past seven years: “We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bob and Aileen Carlucci for their commitment to our cause, because without them and our many other supporters, none of these accomplishments would have been possible. And this Holiday Season, we particularly want to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year and ask you to visit our website, www.bosombuddiescharities.org, to learn more about Bosom Buddies Charities and how we may help each other make our community a healthier one.”
