Free Concert Offered For Martin Luther King Day

Mid Shore Community Mediation Center, The Talbot Partnership and Neighborhood Service Center invite everyone to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day at a free concert on Monday, January 18, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral on Goldsborough Street in Easton.

The internationally renowned duo of Sparky and Rhonda Rucker will offer their blend of music, folklore and tall tales in the American folk tradition. Historian and author Sparky Rucker has been performing for more than forty years as a folklorist, musician and storyteller. Rhonda Rucker adds vocal harmonies and musical accompaniment to create an evening of lively tunes spiced with humor and history.

A grant from the Talbot County Arts Council is making it possible for Mid Shore Mediation to celebrate its mission of peaceful conflict resolution with the community on Dr. King’s birthday.

“The Mediation Center has a close connection with Dr. King’s ideals and principles,” said Peter Taillie, the Center’s Executive Director. “We serve people who otherwise don’t have access to legal representation or are not comfortable with the legal system—the same people whose rights Martin Luther King fought for.”

Taillie added that Sparky Rucker has a particular interest in Frederick Douglass and Harriett Tubman and would be sharing tales related to those noted individuals from local area history.
