~They will make their weather prediction known at the 8th Annual Taste of Kent Narrows
Chester and Chessie have contacted the local press to oust the spotlight stealing groundhog who takes all the credit for weather prediction. In an exclusive statement to The Taste of Kent Narrows committee, the crustaceans quipped, “We’re tired of supplying that groundhog with weather predictions only for him to nap all winter and then come out in the spring to take credit for our hard work and knowledge. The truth must be known!” Chester and Chessie, whose sensitive front claws can detect the slightest changes in air and water temperature, currents and wind speed, have been secretly (and accurately) predicting our local weather for years.
With the secret out, Chester and Chessie have agreed to make their prediction public on Saturday, October 12 when they will race the dock at 2:30 at The Taste of Kent Narrows, revealing whether we are in for an early winter and shorter crab season or mild fall and extended season. If Chester, who loves to hang with his buddies and enjoy a cold beer, makes it down the dock and back into the Bay first, then we can expect a mild fall and extended crab season. If Chessie, who needs to be dormant as soon as possible to prepare for the spring mating season, makes it back into the Bay first, then we can expect an early winter and shorter crab season. In a final statement to the press, Chester and Chessie added, “We’d like to thank The Taste of Kent Narrows committee for helping us come out of our shell and get the credit we deserve for our hard work. They truly understand the importance of us Maryland Blue Crabs!”
The 8th Annual Taste of Kent Narrows, to be held on Saturday, October 12 at the Chesapeake Heritage and Visitor Center in Chester, Maryland, offers samplings of the culinary talents of the area’s finest restaurants while enjoying the waterfront views of the Eastern Shore. This family event also features live entertainment, local wine tasting, arts and crafts vendors, children’s activities and much more. Food tastings will be available from 12 noon until 4 pm with entertainment continuing until 5 pm. Live music will feature the steel drum band, Pan Fried Steel, and local favorites, Out of the Blue.
Proceeds from the event will be used by the Kent Narrows Development Foundation to maintain and enhance the Kent Narrows area. The Kent Narrows Development Foundation was created in 1990 to revitalize the Kent Narrows, a 955-acre waterfront area that has been identified as an important asset to Queen Anne’s County. The Foundation’s mission is to provide guidance and oversight for the formulation of a strategy to balance new economic growth, community redevelopment, support for the County’s fishing and seafood industries and public access to waterfront activities and amenities.
The Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the area while preserving its unique character and history. Tickets are $25 per person in advance or $30 per person at the door.
