Yesterday and Today at The Bazaar at 121 Federal Street

The Bazaar at 121 Federal Street, formally the Hospital Commission Shop, was created in 1947 by 15 civic minded women to help local women recycle their wardrobe back when women were teachers, secretaries and nurses.  In October 2007, the name was changed to The Bazaar at 121 Federal Street and relocated.  Now, it is a modern shop, located behind the Easton Library, where you will find handbags, jewelry, and clothing for men, women and children, books and small house wares.  In today’s market, it is a great find on gently worn items with exceptional pricing.

You will also find wedding dresses and formal gowns which many locals purchase for formal events and local plays.  In fact, some of these gowns were purchased and worn by many locals who appeared in the movie, “The Wedding Crashers”.  In the designer section, you can find such brand names as Escada, Nordstrom, Talbots, Chico’s, J. Crew, Jos. A. Bank, Brooks Brother and many more.

A volunteer recalls a treasured moment when a stranger brought a toy for a little boy whose mother stated she could not afford it.  Another moment remembered was when friends brought in a bride-to-be.  The bride thought she could not find a wedding dress to fit her budget and assumed that if she found one, it would be out-of-date.  Much to her surprise, she found a modern wedding dress she loved and left the shop, a very, very happy bride.

If you are downsizing or just cleaning out your house, please consider donating or consigning to The Bazaar.  We are accepting donations Monday thru Friday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm or by calling 410.822.2031 for an appointment.  Consignments are accepted by appointment only.  It is preferred, but not required, that the clothing come on hangers to minimize wrinkling.  Your donation supports the Memorial Hospital of Easton in purchasing equipment and providing nursing scholarships at Chesapeake College.

It takes approximately 70 volunteers with 4-8 associates in the store per shift, two shifts a day and six days a week to manage this treasure in Easton.

The Memorial Hospital at Easton Auxiliary is always looking for volunteers to help support programs and services offered to the community by Shore Health System by helping in many different areas on-site and off-site of the hospital with very flexible work schedules.  For information about volunteering, please call 410.822.1000 X5839.
