The Leagues of Women Voters of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties will host two back-to-back forums for candidates for the State Senate and the House of Delegates for Maryland’s 36th legislative district. The forums will be held on Thursday, May 29, at the Board of Education in Centreville. All the candidates participating in both forums will be Republicans as the Democratic candidates face no opposition in the primary. The Board of Education is located at 202 Chesterfield Ave. in Centreville. These forums are free and open to the public.
The first forum will begin at 6:30 with the two Republican candidates for the Maryland State Senate, Steve Hershey and Dick Sossi. The candidates will introduce themselves and then answer questions from the audience.
At 7:15 the forum for Republican candidates for the House of Delegates will begin. The participants in this forum are: from Caroline County, Jeff Ghrist; from Cecil County, Rod Heinze, Alan McCarthy, and Michael Smigiel; from Kent County, Jay Jacobs; from Queen Anne’s County, Steve Arentz. Again, the candidates will introduce themselves and then respond to audience questions. When voting for Delegates, voters should vote for no more than three candidates, selecting no more than one from each county.
The League requests that there is no electioneering and no campaign literature or paraphernalia in the building. Signs outside are OK; distribution of campaign materials outside after forum is fine.
The League of Women Voters of Queen Anne’s County is a non-partisan organization open to men and women of voting age. Its mission is to encourage the informed participation of citizens in their government. For questions, call 410.758.3071.
