“Magnificat” to be Featured on Tidewater Chamber Singers Concerts

TCS1 (400 x 174)John Rutter’s beautiful and stirring work “ Magnificat” will be presented by The Tidewater Chamber Singers as part of their holiday musical gift to the community with two “must see” performances on December 19th and 20th. These performances of the “Magnificat” will feature guest soprano soloist Christine Noyes and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of William R. Thomas.  This joyful work was first performed in Carnegie Hall in New York in May of 1990.  The composer had this to say about the work. “The Magnificat has always been one of the most familiar and well-loved of scriptural texts. It is a poetic outpouring of praise, joy and trust in God, ascribed by St. Luke to the Virgin Mary on learning that she was to give birth to the Christ.”   He wanted The Magnificat to represent the Mediterranean sunshine and celebrate the exuberant spirit of the many festivals held throughout Europe in honor of the Virgin Mary.  The program will also include several delightful holiday favorites and a cappella selections by Palestrina, Eric Whitacre and Rutter.
