Now that school has started do you think family fun time is over? Think again. If your family enjoys movies and the outdoors the Town of Centreville has just the thing. On Saturday, September 6, Centreville will present a free Family Fun Night at the Centreville Wharf, 101 Water Way, starting at 5 p.m. The rain date is September 13.

Centreville Family Fun Night is sponsored by Queen Anne’s County YMCA, Corsica River Conservancy, The Country School, and CD Outdoors. Families can bring a picnic dinner to enjoy before the show and eat at picnic tables or spread out on a blanket. Popcorn and ice cream will be available for sale. Free parking is available on site, but visitors are encouraged to walk or ride their bicycle.

The event will include:

  • A fishing derby for youth under 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. Kids can bring their own poles or borrow one at the event. Trophies will be awarded for first fish and biggest fish in three age categories. Registration will be on site.
  • Kayaking from 5 to 7 p.m., sponsored by CD Outdoors. No experience is necessary. Captain Chris Dollar, owner of CD Outdoors, will show newbies how to paddle.
  •  The outdoor screening at The Lego Movie at dusk (about 8 p.m.) Blankets and low chair are encouraged.

“The concept of hosting an outdoor movie has been something that I’ve always wanted to see in Centreville,” says Tim McCluskey, Centreville Council Vice President and event organizer. “We have a great group of sponsors who helped us pull this together in a relatively short period of time. The Centreville Wharf park has become a scenic place to enjoy a late summer evening. We hope to see lots of families out by the waterfront enjoying one of Centreville’s beautiful places,” he adds.
