WHBG, Inc. Accountant Earns CPA Certification

Kristin Chapman, CPA, of Stevensville, staff accountant with WHBG, Inc., 116 Log Canoe Circle, Stevensville, has recently earned her certified public accountant (CPA) certificate. Ms. Chapman graduated cum laude in May 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Perdue School of Business, Salisbury University. She has been with WHBG, Inc. since June 2008.

CPA certification is a professional licensing designation denoting a high level of accounting education, experience, trustworthiness and ethics. In order to become a CPA a candidate must complete 150 semester hours of college coursework as well as pass a rigorous, four-part national exam prepared by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

“Although CPA is a term many of us are familiar with few of us know what an achievement it is to attain the certification until you’ve gone through the process,” says Patricia Mager, CPA, president, WHBG, Inc. “We have all heard the horror stories about trying to pass the bar or getting into medical school. Many people may be surprised to learn that less than one-half of the candidates who take the CPA exam each year pass every part on the first try. It is a benchmark of success for the profession. We are very proud to have Kristin as part of our team at WHBG,” she adds.

Ms. Chapman is a member of the Queen Anne’s Chesapeake Women’s Network, and was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Business Honors Fraternity for Accounting, Finance and Information Systems Majors and the Institute of Management Accountants, both at Salisbury University.
