The Wye Conservatory of Music announces its courses for the fall season. Private lessons in voice and piano as well as a course in Beginner’s Music Theory will be offered. The Music Theory class is a 6-week class open to all ages and skill levels, both instrumentalists and vocalists who want to further their musical understanding and analysis. This comprehensive course will look at topics in harmony, melody, rhythm, sight-reading, and composition. Classes will be held Saturdays at 10:30am, beginning September 29th and ending November 3rd. The registration fee of $75 includes the cost of course materials.
The Conservatory also has openings for private lessons in voice and piano. The teachers are Conservatory Director, Bonnie Forgacs, an opera singer and graduate of Curtis Institute of Music who has performed at Carnegie Hall, and Assistant Director, Amy Morgan, a graduate of Salisbury University’s Music program and a gifted keyboard artist and teacher. Studio lessons are available to students of all ages and skill levels, and are fashioned to the needs of each pupil. Lessons in the Conservatory will introduce repertoire, proper technique, music theory, and provide performance opportunities.
The Conservatory also has choral ensembles for all ages. Its programs, the Wye Youth Chorale, the Wye Choral Scholars, and the Wye Parish Choir have openings available.
The Wye Youth Chorale is a group comprised of students, grades 4-7, who love to sing and perform. No musical experience is necessary to be a member, as the chorale focuses on developing vocal technique through a fun and versatile repertoire. The group rehearses every Tuesday 5:30-6:45 in preparation for performances on and off the Eastern Shore. Registration fee is $100 yearly, but offers scholarship opportunities.
The Wye Choral Scholars is an auditioned group for students in grades 8-12. Scholars receive private vocal training, rehearse as an ensemble weekly, and perform in the services of Wye Parish and in the community. Choral scholars receive a stipend in addition to their training; the majority of the stipend goes into an account for post-secondary education.
The Wye Parish Choir welcomes new adult members. The Choir sings on the first and third Sundays of the month at the 10 a.m. service at Old Wye Church in Wye Mills and on the second and fourth Sundays at the 8 a.m. service at St; Luke’s Chapel in Queenstown.
All Conservatory programs are held at St. Luke’s Chapel’s Parish Hall at Dudley and Main Streets in Queenstown. For more information and registration, contact Director Bonnie Forgacs at 410-463-1466 or Assistant Director Amy Morgan at 410-603-8361.
