The Talbot Bank and The Avon-Dixon Agency, members of Shore Bancshares family of companies, each donated $750 for a total of $1,500 to the Trappe Summer Youth Program in Trappe, Md. The program, whose mission is to provide work, educational, recreational and charitable opportunities to teen boys and girls ages 14 to 17, completed its inaugural season in mid-August.
The youth program was conceived by David Lee, senior vice president of The Avon-Dixon Agency and executed with the help of a dozen volunteers from Trappe as well as monetary donations from local businesses and charitable organizations. “Talbot Bank was very pleased to assist this worth-while program in getting started”, comments Laura Heikes, Talbot Bank vice president operations and compliance. “The youth will be our future leaders and it benefits our communities to give them a safe and positive arena in which to grow and learn.”
The program taught basic work skills while working on projects around the town for both individuals and local businesses. On Fridays, in addition to earning a paycheck, the teens were rewarded for their efforts with fun educational and recreational events. “Our program goals are to teach good work skills, promote community awareness and to keep our youth active and engaged throughout the summer”, says David Lee. “We had 7 teens participate this summer and are looking forward to growing the program next year.” For more information on how teens can sign up or on how to submit a work or project request that is appropriate for young people, please contact Mr. Lee at 410-763-6551 office or 410-310-6360 cell.
