Employees of The Talbot Bank, member of Shore Bancshares’ family of companies, enthusiastically participated in “Teach Children to Save Day” on April 23rd in both Dorchester County and Talbot County schools. “Teach Children to Save Day” is an annual event where banker volunteers trade their spreadsheets for chalkboards to teach the ABC’s of financial education at elementary schools across the country. The program started in 1997 and The Talbot Bank has been an active participant for many years.
The following Talbot Bank employees each volunteered for the day; Dawn Brode, Lynnell Ennells, Lindsay Triplett, Jen Willey, Nancy Urbanczyk, Dawn Henckel, Lorraine Secrist, Parker Spurry, Pat Jones, Laura Heikes, Amber Harrison, Joyce Malik, Kaylin Starken, Amy Hutchison, and Bea Juliano. . They visited Sandy Hill and Choptank Elementary Schools in Dorchester County as well as Easton, Tilghman, White Marsh, Chesapeake Christian, and St. Michaels Elementary Schools in Talbot County.
Together, Talbot Bank employees presented financial lessons to 22 third grade classes, reaching approximately 426 students. “Teach Children to Save Day is a great event. We eagerly participate every year and enjoy teaching 3rd graders the importance of savings,” comments Dawn Henckel, Talbot Bank Compliance Officer. “I believe that we make a difference and it is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment to see the smiles on the children’s faces.” Talbot Bank encourages families to be involved with their children’s financial education and to reach out to Talbot Bank employees for assistance in providing ideas and ways to begin saving.
