“Library Guy” to Hold Book Discussions for Teens & Pre-Teens
A recent study by Johns Hopkins University found that, on average, by the end of the fifth grade, students who did not read during the summer had fallen two years behind their peers academically. To help parents counter the phenomenon scientists call “cumulative summer learning loss,” the Talbot County Free Library will present a series of book discussions this summer on a work of teen fiction exceptionally popular with young people, Rick Riordan’s “The Lightning Thief.” Hosted by “the library guy,” Bill Peak, the group will meet at the Easton library, 28712 Glebe Road, on successive Wednesdays, July 6 – 20, at 1:00 p.m. All library programs are free and open to the public, but teen and pre-teen participants do need to pre-register for this program. For more information or to pre-register, call the library at 410-822-1626, or visit the library’s website at www.tcfl.org and click on http://www.tcfl.org/events/ltreg.html.
