A Talbot Mentors benefactor is challenging the community to support the mentoring organization with its year-end contributions. The individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, will match dollar for dollar donations made to Talbot Mentors during the month of December, up to $25,000.
Further enhancing the incentive, those repeat donors who increase their support over last year’s level will have their additional contribution matched two for one.
Talbot Mentors Executive Director Diana Trams expressed her appreciation for the benefactor’s generosity, noting that the fund drive has one hundred percent participation by the organization’s Board of Directors.
“We hope that all of our volunteers and supporters will take advantage of this opportunity to maximize the impact of their contributions,” she said.
Approximately 75 percent of the organization’s funding comes from individual donations, with the rest from grants and foundations, including the United Fund of Talbot County. In addition to office and staff expenses, general contributions fund ongoing support and training for mentors, as well as year-round activities and special events for children and volunteers.
“We realize that there are many requests this time of year for people’s generosity,” said Trams, “but we sincerely hope that the community will be moved to step up to this challenge. This offer, and the funds we can raise with its help, mean a great deal to us and to the children we mentor.”
