Talbot Partnership Hires Community Organizer

Talbot Partnership has announced the hiring of Sparrow Mahoney of St. Michaels to the position of Community Organizer, through its recently awarded Maryland Strategic Prevention Framework Grant, administered through the Talbot County Health Department. The grant will address the following:

Reduce the number of youth, ages 12-20, reporting past month alcohol use
Reduce the number of young persons, ages 18-25, reporting past month binge drinking
Reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes involving youth ages 16-25.

The grant was the result of a collaborative effort of a planning group made up of individuals with knowledge of the extent and consequences of alcohol abuse among Talbot County youth, as well as of the resources for dealing with the problem. Additional members of the planning group include 14 community leaders from law enforcement, town government, education and human services, the recovering community, faith-based and other youth-serving organizations.

Mahoney has more than 10 years of professional experience in healthcare, finance and education. She is bi-lingual in Spanish and has worked with diverse populations professionally and through numerous volunteer organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Eastern New Mexico University. She resides in St. Michaels with her husband and two children.
