Talbot Partnership To Host Two Special Screenings of the HBO Family Documentary ”Smashed: Toxic Tales of Teens and Alcohol”

clip_image002[2] (59 x 72)Two special screenings of the HBO Family Documentary ”Smashed: Toxic Tales of Teens and Alcohol” will be held on Wednesday, October 23 to benefit the Talbot Partnership for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention’s efforts to combat drug and alcohol abuse by teens in the County.

This documentary, which takes place in the emergency room of the University of Maryland’s R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, takes a sometimes-grisly look at a series of fatal crashes by teen drivers in Maryland. It includes an examination of how alcohol and other issues involving young drivers can result in death and debilitating injuries that affect many more people than just the immediate victims of the crashes.

Proceeds from the two screenings will benefit the Talbot Partnership in their mission to encourage the community to recognize the problems of — and implement solutions related to — alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. The Partnership’s activities include developing and implementing policies; promoting early intervention programs; and building a culture that favors a healthy, safe, and drug-free community.

“This is a very important film that should be seen by the entire family,” said Gary Pearce, Director of the Talbot Partnership, in describing “Smashed…”. “It graphically portrays the tragedy of underage drinking and driving through the eyes of medical personnel, family members, friends, and the teens themselves. This film shows the devastation and difficulties suffered by survivors of a crash and how that devastation effects those close to them and those in the community at large.”
