100_2671 (2) (400 x 250)Now in its 11th year, the very popular Wye Parish Books Café will extend to two weekends and offer over 25,000 books for sale. Every year people from all over the Eastern Shore and beyond return to take advantage of the wide variety of books – all carefully sorted and offered at 90% off cover price.

Located in St. Luke’s Chapel’s Parish Hall, at Main and Dudley Streets in Queenstown, the Books Café will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1; Saturday, March 2; Sunday, March 3 and Friday, March 8; Saturday, March 9; and Sunday, March 10. Shoppers often come more than once as the shelves and tables of books are constantly restocked.

Dedicated friends and members of Wye Parish gather and sort the books year around in preparation for this annual event. They report that they have been particularly impressed by the range and quality of the books being offered this year.

The Books Café is a place to find books by your favorite author, subjects of interest to you, or to stock up on books for rainy days or vacations. For children, there is a Children’s Room with everything from board books and picture books through easy readers, Newberry winners, popular series and classics. The science fiction and fantasy areas are popular with teen readers. Besides a large selection of current and classic fiction in both hardback and paper back, adults will find sections dedicated to history, including military history; biography; arts and music; nature; cooking; local interest; sailing and boating; gardening; crafts, hobbies and tools and more.

The Café’s traditional Brunswick stew, vegetarian chili, and chicken salad will be available. Drinks, hot dogs and cookies and desserts, including a specialty, Smith Island Cake, will be offered as well. Bring a friend or relative and make your visit to the Books Café a special outing.

The Books Café is under the auspices of the Vestry of Wye Parish. Its proceeds benefit the outreach programs of its two churches, Old Wye in Wye Mills and St. Luke’s Chapel in Queenstown. Dr. Lowell Perry of Queenstown and Jim Campbell of Centreville, co-chairs of the event, are assisted by parishioners and friends and aided by the welcome donations of books from people throughout the Mid-Shore.
